NEWS September 2008 THE GORDON BENNETT BAND GETS A NEW FRONT-MAN! As The Gordon Bennett Band bid a fond farewell to their long time front man Bud, they begin a new mission to awe the teaming masses joined by a new, yet strangely familiar voice.... Die-hard fans will be familiar with the well-oiled line-up of rip-it-up-riff-master Hippy Smith on lead guitar, the effervescent Uncle Ben on bass and slinky smooth skin-shaker Paul Percussion on drums, and will sorely be missing Bud after seeing him perform many great gigs over the years with veteran members of The Gordon Bennett Band. The goods news is that the gaping hole left by the departure of Bud has now been sutured up by the appearance of none other than a dusty old favorite, seasoned local rock blues soul vocalist Matt White, who has emerged from his semi-retirement with a vengeance. Holy Shit!! Previously seen in the guise of a poncho-wearing, maraca-toting hippy, fronting local blues engine Swagger some 8 years ago, Matt has been more recently fronting his rock covers band WhiteOut, with whom he continues a long-standing brotherhood. Matt says he is chuffed as hell to be joining ranks with GBB, having enjoyed working on some Jimi Hendrix and Muddy Waters-themed gigs with the gents a few years back. The coming months will see this brazen outfit continuing on in their traditional wicked ways by taking a full-steam, irreverent assault on a mountain of classic and contemporary rock, blues and just about whatever takes their fancy on the night. They are sharpening their smartest dressed chords, adding a mother load of new material to their already diverse rock and blues repertoire. Influences and material range through The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Kings Of Leon, U2, Radiohead, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, The Stray Cats, Cream, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, T-Rex, Stealer's Wheel, The Clash, The Cult and many more. Come and ride the rock and roll tsunami with them at their next show. |
